Woohoo! We’re another month closer to Christmas 😛 Okay, yeah, I’m a bit of a Christmas fiend. It’s just a great time of year and I love giving and receiving presents and the food is awesome, and and and… But back to the point…
August was a pretty decent month for finishing products. I even hit pan on two eyeshadows, but since I didn’t finish them, I haven’t added them to the list. I also managed to do some sneaky Boots shopping thanks to a friend who was in England for holiday. I can’t wait to get my hands on all the new goodies!
So here we go:
Stila One Step Correct
This is an interesting product. It looks like a DNA coil in a plastic container with a pump. It has three colours swirled together, green being the most important one for me, which are supposed to correct your complexion. I say “supposed” because I think maybe it either doesn’t work for me OR I need the hard tack to correct my pink. And believe me, there’s a lot of peaches and cream happening here.
As a primer, I don’t think it worked that well for me. I’m on the combo/oily side of things, and it made my Garnier BB cream (the one for oily/combo skin) almost separate (???) and slide off. It wasn’t pretty. I ended up switching to the mattest foundation I own – Clarins Ever Matte – and that seemed to help when using this, but yeah, I’m pretty glad it’s finished.
I do, however, realllllly like the powder/compact version of this stuff. It’s one of those grindy majigs, and I think it does a great job whenever I use it. I might have to acquire one of those again, since I used it up ages ago.
Uriage Anti-Redness Cream
Can you see a trend here? I’m gonna be honest… I didn’t see ANY difference. It was very hydrating, though. I used it as my night cream after I realised it didn’t really do much for the daytime pink look. When I woke up in the morning, my skin felt great. But price wise… this won’t really be a repurchase.
The Body Shop Nutriganics Smoothing Eye Cream
Another product that didn’t really make a difference. Okay, let me rephrase that: I didn’t notice a difference OTHER THAN a hydrated undereye area (which I liked) and I really enjoyed the process of putting it on, rubbing it in… It made me feel like I was looking after my skin. And it felt soothing. But did it smooth or get rid of fine lines? I have no idea. My eyes look exactly the same.
I am currently eyecream-less because I’m a poor girl, and also, is it really a necessity when you’re using a serum? I doubt it.
Esse Light Moisturiser for Young or Oily Skins
I really liked this. It lasted forever! I can’t use anything too moisturising in the morning, because honestly, who has time to sit around and wait FOREVER for moisturiser to sink in? So this was really great. I think I read a review about Esse products on Mothercitymom, which prompted me to buy the microderm exfoliator (serious love for that), and that in turn prompted me to try the creams.
This is a possible repurchase. Possible because I need the funds first. Or there needs to be an awesome sale.
The Body Shop Spa Wisdom Polynesia Monoi Body Balm
You don’t even want to know how long it has taken me to finish this stuff. When I scraped the last bit out, I’m sure the heavens opened and angel tears rained down. This stuff is seriously moisturising. And smells REALLY strong. So if those two things aren’t on the top of your must-haves for a body butter, I’d suggest skipping this.
I received this body balm as a gift. It’s definitely not something I’d consider repurchasing. It interferred with my perfume if I used it in the day, so it was definitely something I’d wear on weekends or in the evenings. But that aside, it’s not a bad scent. It’s just like a megaphone for your skin. It’s seriously hydrating and smooth, but took a long time to sink in.
Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Oil
Now why would I include this in a beauty product round up? Well, I’ve been using it instead of shaving cream. I found a full bottle of this stuff right at the back of my shelf and wondered what the hell I’d use it for. So I did some googling, because I wasn’t about to slather it all over my body. And the most prominent result I found was that it makes a great shaving companion.
And yes it does. I stopped getting knicks, I got the smoothest shave and longer life from my razor blades, and it’s just great. Also, it’s moisturising, so I didn’t get any of that itchy post-shave thing or the lizard legs from the desert like I sometimes do. Repurchase? Hellz yes. It’s cheaper than shaving cream… BUT I’m busy trying to use up The Body Shop oil I got with that Body Balm. Again. Don’t really…like that stuff much. It’s so oily. Does that make sense?
Neutrogena Extra Gentle Face Cleanser
Oh yes. Repurchase forever, guys. I’m sure it’s just aqueous cream in a bottle. And that isn’t a bad thing. It has no perfume or fragrance, it doesn’t irritate my moody skin and it feels refreshing and moisturising. I use this in the morning. I would suggest only ever using this in the morning because it will do NOTHING for your makeup.
Radox Herbal Smoothie Body Wash in Soul Soother
Another present that I’ve finished up. It was so creamy. I completely forgot how nice this stuff is. The scent wasn’t my favourite (strawberry) but the texture was great. I’d definitely get another version of this. But, I’ve bought an economy size Nivea body wash. Yeah, poor times.
YSL Forever Youth Liberator Serum sample
I received this tiny little sachet from PrincessNoo as a little extra when I got some stuff from her blogsale. I actually kinda liked it! It’s not something I’d buy myself though. At the moment I’m using Indeed Labs Hydraluron (viva sales!) and The Body Shop Vitamin E Oil in Serum… both of which I love and could write poetry about. But I shall spare you.
Nivea Cocoa Butter Body Moisturiser sample
I was walking around Tygervalley I think (lego-hunting, ofcourse) and was handed one of these free samples. I kind of forgot about it until I spent the weekend away from home. It popped into my mind while I was packing and I was like “that would be a good idea to bring along!” so I did. And it was great. It smells SO NICE. Maybe one day I’ll be chucking this in my shopping basket.
The Body Shop Shea Body Scrub
So, do you remember me saying last month that I bought a bigggggg tub of this scrub in the TBS sale. Well. I flattened it, obviously. Scrubs are one thing in my life that *don’t last*. I actually bought some Caribbean Tan exfoliator as a replacement. Cos, R45. I don’t tan. I don’t self-tan. But it smells like cinnamon, so there we go.
Here’s to hoping I don’t give in to the #feelingspendy mood I’ve been trying to hold back for the past forever. Until next month!
